#457 -- The Three Global Crises: How Should We Respond? (1)

Dec. 3, 2016, 7:34 p.m.
An eye-opening and well-researched talk by activist Vincent Emanuele. He explores the three crises that are making the world--at best--highly unstable. Then he suggests some steps that the people can take to make our uncertain future as livable as possible. Since neither government nor business is likely to do anything positive about these crises, useful responses will have to come from the grassroots. (Continued under "Credits")

Noted author and expert on energy depletion Richard Heinberg discusses the special period facing Cuba after the disintegration of the Soviet Bloc and the impressive measures that allowed the island country to survive and thrive. Finally, host Michael Welch recites Michel Chossudovsky's written remarks about his conversations with Castro in 2010, and then a translation of one of the Cuban leader's speeches on the topic of nuclear war and the need to win the "battle of Ideas" enslaving the world to endless war.

Out of the Woods - Show #348 - 12-10-16

Dec. 2, 2016, 5:43 a.m.
This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length. Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Kate MacLeod, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk. All of these influences converge on Out of the Woods to bring you a mix which is as much on the edge as it is down home. Folk music with a rock 'n' roll soul

TB 161202 Lights in the Darkness

Dec. 2, 2016, 3:32 a.m.
This week I warn the Republican Party that one disadvantage to their having assumed power is that they are now subject to being Thunderbolted much more often than they have been lately. Next, we air a public service announcement to help the ladies protect themselves from twisted perverts at White House events (such as our new president, for instance) and then we slap a knee over the Media Machine’s attempts to normalize the insanity of a Trump administration. We attempt to answer the Toothless Old Grandpa’s question about WTF just happened. We then not only revive the Irony of the Week feature but we reveal what is possibly the most perfect irony in all human history! Next, the Thunderbolt makes a series of personal commitments to you, our listeners, Finally, we end the program with the feature piece about how there are lights in the darkness and that we may be able to gather those scattered lights into glaring spotlight thus illuminating the path to a better way so we can finally move on to the next phase in our evolution! (Don’t laugh! Grandpa almost cried when he heard about it!) The Thunderbolt saves the world — at no extra cost!
