Stop CETA - Analysis from Michel Chossudovsky; Rocco Galati's Constitutional Challenge
Oct. 28, 2016, 10:19 a.m.
The Canada EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) appears to be back on track following well publicized concerns that the accord, several years in the making was about to be de-railed.
The Mainstream media is signalling that the deal's ratification may be only days away.
While citizens, particularly in European countries have raised objections, EU leaders are forging ahead.
On this week's episode of the Global Research News Hour we take a look at objections not being raised anywhere else.
Professor Michel Chossudovsky argues that CETA is effectively a proxy for a trade pact not just with Canada, but with all three NAFTA partners. He also argues this project is aligning with NATO military objectives. He explains his position in the first half hour.
In the second half hour we hear audio from an October 25th Press conference featuring Constitutional Lawyer Rocco Galati and two of his plaintiffs, Ann Emmett and former Minister of Defence the Honourable Paul Hellyer.
They argue the CETA would violate the constitution and encroaches on the exclusive jurisdiction of the provinces, and aim to block the passage of CETA through legal means.
People Get Ready for a New Economy
Oct. 28, 2016, 10:18 a.m.
People Get Ready
with
Robert W. McChesney, Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is the author or editor of 23 books, whose work has been translated into 31 languages.
Join Robert W. McChesney as he posits that the United States needs a new economy in which revolutionary technologies are applied to effectively address environmental and social problems and used to rejuvenate and extend democratic institutions. Based on intense reporting, rich historical analysis, and deep understanding of the technological and social changes that are unfolding, McChesney proposes a bold strategy for democratizing our digital destiny"before its too late"and unleashing the real power of the Internet, and of humanity.
Humanity is on the verge of its darkest hour"or its greatest moment. The consequences of the technological revolution are about to hit hard: unemployment will spike as new technologies replace labor in the manufacturing, service, and professional sectors of an economy that is already struggling. The end of work as we know it will hit at the worst moment imaginable: as capitalism fosters permanent stagnation, when the labor market is in decrepit shape, with declining or stagnant wages , expanding poverty, and scorching inequality. Only the dramatic democratization of the economy can address the existential challenges we now face. Yet, the US political process is so dominated by billionaires and corporate special interests, by corruption and monopoly, that it stymies not just democracy but progress. The great challenge of these times is to ensure that the tremendous benefits of technological progress are employed to serve the whole of humanity, rather than to enrich the wealthy few.

We discuss how refreshing it is to have an honest politician (even if he is a misogynistic racist Nazi and rapist). Next is the Irony of the Week, â followed by this weekâs feature piece about how foundations hold up and support empires.

Out of the Woods - Show #343 - 11-5-16
Oct. 27, 2016, 4:44 p.m.
This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length.
Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Kate MacLeod, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk. All of these influences converge on Out of the Woods to bring you a mix which is as much on the edge as it is down home. Folk music with a rock 'n' roll soul
