Prof. Lonnie Thompson: Melting of the High Mountain Glaciers of the World

This is a re-broadcast and partial update of one of the most appreciated and also rare programs by TUC. This program will be followed by two updates with Dr. Thompson. Thompson issues a warning that the mountain glaciers he knows and loves are melting ever more dramatically within the last twenty years. He is the leading expert on glaciers with 30 years of on location research. Thompson saw one of the first ice cores that was recovered from a glacier when he was in graduate school. He was fascinated by the amount of data on earth history, past climate and world changing events that can be read from these ice cores and made the exploration of ice his life's work. He teaches in the Department of Geological Sciences and is Senior Research Scientists at the Byrd Polar Center at Ohio State University. In three decades he has explored most of the mountain glaciers of this world, has learned their history going back tens of thousands of years via the ice cores he and his team drilled at altitudes that no helicopter can reach. He came to San Francisco in early December 2007 to issue this warning. Thompson was the honored speaker at the December 2007 meeting of the American Geophysical Union. I thought long and hard about the actual philosophical concept behind fascism and how it relates to life generally. This podcast is dedicated to the thoughts which poured from my mind. Not all are palatable, many need some serious refinement but all in all this episode will give you something magnificent to think on as we stair headlong into the dawn of the United Confederacy of Corporate States – doesn’t necessarily roll off the tongue does it? There’s a reason for that, I didn’t want the name to appear forgettable. The U.S at one time was a Confederacy – Southern diplomats during secession argued the south was keeping to the original idea of the founding fathers by calling their union a confederacy, it is from the articles of confederacy which we draw the idea of states’ rights from. It is from this idea that NeoConservatives have ruled from since the 1960s, making the idea of a new United Confederacy already realized, now all we need is the Corporatization of the government – cue Donald Trump, to be fair Privatization has been Corporatizing Government for three decades now, but looking at this cabinet it might go on steroids again very soon. What’s that you say. . . .he hasn’t promised to privatize anything – I’ll have to pass on that fact for now because I think you and I know, no one in his cabinet believes in the power of Government, they believe in Corporate power – which concerns me.
