Arctic Amplification, Climate Change, and Global Warming - New Challenges from the Top of the World (ONE of TWO)

Sept. 20, 2016, 8:37 p.m.
NOTE: This program begins with two brief news clips from NBC4 and Thom Hartmann as reminder that a most important but underreported news item for September is the status of the sea ice in the Arctic. With increasing urgency Wadhams is calling attention to the disappearing sea ice of the Arctic. In his most recent book, A Farewell to Ice, he writes: “Our planet has changed color. Today, from space, the top of the world in the northern summer looks blue instead of white. We have created an ocean where there was once an ice sheet.” In a lecture in Milan, Italy, in May 2015, Peter Wadhams explained how the melting of the Arctic affects the rest of the world. He listed seven major areas, among them sea level rise, emission of methane, and extreme weather events that we already experience. Peter Wadhams is the UK's most experienced sea ice scientist. He has made more than 50 expeditions to both polar regions, working from ice camps, icebreakers, and aircraft. He made six submerged voyages to the North Pole on Royal Navy submarines. Wadham's research group in Cambridge has been the only UK group with the capacity to carry out field work on sea ice.

U.S. "regime change" operation in Syria spares no lie

Sept. 19, 2016, 6:27 p.m.
The recent U.S. bombing of Syrian government forces is a very dangerous military escalation of the U.S.' 5-year effort to overturn the legally-elected, internationally-recognized government of Syria. This relentless regime-change campaign has involved organizing tens of thousands of mercenaries from more than 60 countries around the world. The U.S. has failed to put a dent in ISIS after three years of illegal operations inside Syria, although the Russian air force has dealt serious damage to the terrorists. Days ago, during a ceasefire, the U.S. bombed Syrian government forces that were under siege from ISIS. Syria and Russia have demonstrated tremendous restraint in response to this deadly 'accident' and other illegal incursions, but the relentless U.S. campaign to Balkanize and destroy Syria continues. Flounders explains the nation-destroying effort of the U.S. in Syria in the context of Iraq and Libya, and comments on Samantha Power's rant following America's murder of dozens of Syrian soldiers. We live in an age where the "big lie" isn't big enough for corporate media, and they seek to create bigger ones: the White Helmets, fake "humanitarian" organizations, and terrorists as "rescuers." There is no limit to the fabrications that will be used to justify America's illegal wars of aggression all over the world.

'Israel provoked this war!': A remarkable interview with distinguished Rabbi Henry Siegman

Sept. 19, 2016, 6:22 p.m.
We are reintroducing this special interview, first aired on our show on 9-14-2014, because of its extraordinary significance. It consists of a remarkable interview with the distinguished Rabbi, Henry Siegman, originally conducted by Amy Goodman of Democracy Now. Rabbi Siegman is a former Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. Prior to that, he was the Executive Director of the American Jewish Congress (1978–1994), long described as one of the nation’s "big three" Jewish organizations along with the American Jewish Committee and the Anti-Defamation League. He was for many years one of the original pillars of Zionism. He explains his ultimate awakening to the awful truth. No Nobel Prize for Al Qaeda-White Helmets, Please.

Sept. 19, 2016, 5:55 p.m.
Doug Brown joins the program to explain why the Hamilton Coalition to Stop the War wrote a letter to the NDP Federal Caucus about why the "White Helmets" should not be given the Nobel Peace Prize. There is a very sophisticated marketing campaign to present the White Helmets as a grassroots humanitarian organization in Syria. It was actually founded by a British army officer formerly associated with Blackwater and created and supported by the very same NATO governments that are attacking Syria today. The "White Helmets" operate in Nusra-controlled zones and have served as auxiliaries for this Al Qaeda-affiliated organization. Their leader was denied entry into the U.S. for associating with terrorist groups. Canadian politicians should not be taken in by a U.S. public relations campaign to paint collaborators with Al Qaeda as humanitarian first responders who are saving children.
