Fred Jerome, whose father was imprisoned during "Red Scare", appreciates Trumbo.
Feb. 13, 2016, 4:03 p.m.
Fred Jerome, whose father, V. J. Jerome, was one of the more than 100 communists arrested under the Smith Act and who served for 3 years (1954-57) in a Pennsylvania federal prison, gives a critical analysis of the Trumbo film. Dalton Trumbo was a one of the Hollywood 10 communists whom the House Un-American Activities Committee sentenced to serve a year in prison in 1950.
On the positive side, Jerome says the film was very well done; gives a realist glance of US McCarthyism or "the Great Red Scare"; gives the public someone who says with pride "I am a communist;" shows a man who refuses to bend under the Congressional Investigating Committee questioning. He sees the highlight of the film --Trumbo's daughter asking him if he is a communist, if mom is a communist and if she is a communist. Trumbo's response about the importance of believing in sharing wealth is a start in explaining what communism is.
On the less positive side, Jerome believes the film suffers from the Hollywood "one man against the world" scenario. Jerome says that Trumbo would have been the first to says is not about one person; but, in the film, you don't see the 1000s of others who protested around the world nor even the other of the Hollywood 10 being questioned.
The ICC is trying to frame Gbagbo
Feb. 13, 2016, 3:57 p.m.
Bernard Desgagne provides important background information about Ivory Coast (Côte d'Ivoire) political history and the "former" President Laurent Gbagbo who has been targeted by the Western countries and now faces charges at the infamous International Criminal Tribunal (ICC) --the place where all good and just African leaders who do not bow down to the Western powers are drug.
President Laurent Gbagbo, elected in October of 2000, was known as "the father of the multiparty-system in the Ivory Coast." Gbagbo's rival since 1992 was Alassanc Ouattara, former IMF man hired by 30 year no-opposition president Félix Houphouët-Boigny, who died in December of 1993. In 1992, Ouattara sabataged Gbagbo's peaceful protests challenging the one-party system and then blamed the destruction onto Gbagbo, who was jailed and given a mock trial.
Gbagbo wanted peace and reconciliation, so he pardoned a rebel general and allowed him to take part in political life and made other concessions that allowed Ouattara to run for president in the 2010 elections. Gbagbo won those elections.
Syrian Army liberating territory, US-Turkey in panic mode
Feb. 13, 2016, 3:51 p.m.
The combined force of Syrian troops and Russian air support has turned the tide of battle against the mercenary terrorist groups trained and financed by NATO and the Gulf Monarchs. Sahiounie contradicts the false reports in Western media about refugees fleeing Aleppo;
their numbers have been exaggerated and many are families and supporters of the terrorist groups. The Saudi/Turkish rhetoric about invading Syria does not frighten the people of Syria who are fighting with renewed confidence.

Out of the Woods - Show #306 - 2-20-16
Feb. 13, 2016, 2:29 p.m.
This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length.
Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Kate MacLeod, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk. All of these influences converge on Out of the Woods to bring you a mix which is as much on the edge as it is down home. Folk music with a rock 'n' roll soul

Protestors Arrested Declaring NYC an Ice-Free Zone, in Push-Back Against Obama s New Year s Resolution To Deport Central American Refugees
with
The ICE-FREE NYC campaign, comprised of New Yorkers of all Backgrounds Who Want Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Completely Out of Our City
In response to the ongoing raids of non-citizens and the announcement of raids against Central American refugees immigrant rights advocates, labor unions, faith-based groups, and community members gathered to say NO to raids, demand and end to deportations and announce the creation of ICE-FREE Zones throughout New York City. First, Obama, already known in immigrant communities as the Deporter-in-Chief, announced the deportation priority program called Priority Enforcement Program (PEP). Shortly after the announcement of PEP, home raids in NYC increased at an alarming rate. Then, on December 26, 2015, Obama s Dept. of Homeland Security (DHS) announced nationwide raids aimed at deporting the primarily women and children, many of whom are refugees who fled some of the most violent regions in the world, in particular Central America. But, the ICE-FREE NYC campaign demands that the Department of Corrections and New York Police Department must end all collaboration with ICE, prohibit the sharing of information about New Yorkers between ICE and all City agencies that may reveal an individuals immigration status. The ICE-FREE NYC campaign stands in solidarity and will put their bodies on the line to protect immigrant/ refugee families and create ICE-FREE Zones within NYC's five boroughs and Long Island.
#415 -- Economics and Inequality, Part 2
Feb. 13, 2016, 12:11 p.m.
Economist Joseph Stiglitz shows that economic inequality in the US is bad and getting worse. The causes are our dysfunctional style of capitalism and a political system that serves only the elite.
Our economic inequality is bad for democracy, bad for the US economy, even bad for capitalism, Stiglitz argues.
Part 2 has the conclusion of the talk and selections from the Q&A. The talk--though short on solutions--is a lucid and very listenable survey of the problems we face--and their causes.

Negotiating Madness: North American Political Confusion in Black and White
Feb. 11, 2016, 10:27 a.m.
In this dispatch of FWR, TheAngryindian (using unedited audio statements from right-wing internet radio programmes) asks the pressing question: 'Are large numbers of the North American general population really as theologically bizarre, as potentially violent (#Ammosexuals) and as functionally illiterate about the political system of their own country (and claimed beliefs) as they appear to be? If so, what does this mean as we move towards the vote in #Election2016? And further, is it possible for those who suffer from various forms of American Exceptionalism to admit that when it comes to local, national, international and many progressive issues, their opposition to a more inclusive society is based upon nothing more than rank ignorance and/or unreasonable social fears about needed 'change'?
Is the problem really one of human stupidity or simply a bad case of political ignorance which can be easily repaired through education and a will to understand rather than believe? EXTRAS: Poet Vladimir Vysotsky : 'The Hunting of Wolves' / (archived audio) : Payroll the Pimp (American Pimp) â 'Pimping 101' podcast.
All this and much more on, 4WR.
