2) This year's NB budget came down in on February 2nd: Interview with Johanne Perron of the Pay Equity Coalition of New Brunswick and NB Prosperity not Austerity and Patrick Colford with the New Brunswick Federation of Labour and also NB Prosperity not Austerity. Covers concerns with budget announcements and ideas of how things could be done differently.

A monthly public affairs show hosted by high school students in Mendocino County California. They talk about teen/parent communication. Last fall Project Sanctuary hosted a public forum about communication between teenagers and their parents. We will discuss the subjects we covered at that forum, including substance use, birth control, active listening, and self-harm. Also we will talk about the positive and negative aspects of always having a device that hooks us up to the web.

Radio Thrift Shop features a homegrown mix of vinyl records, 78s, 45's, LPs, private press releases, and a variety of tapes and homemade / self released cds. Each edition features a unique playlist of music released between the early 20th century & next week.

This week's episode features a panel discussion from the 8th annual Humboldt Anarchist Bookfaire, taking place in Arcata on January 23rd, 2016. In that panel we hear (mostly) from Doug, Rachel, Adam, Amanda & Jacob of Modesto Anarcho journal and collective as well as the Fireshouse 51 space and other related projects from the Central Valley of California. Their journal, Modesto Anarcho ran from the mid 2000's through the mid 2010's. Last up, let's hear a track from Cuscutta, an atmospheric black metal band from Colorado in the U.S. The track is called Rented Room and can be found on the album Fodder for the Callous, released on December 30th, 2015. The album is based on 4 poems by Xu Lizhi, a poet and Chinese Foxconn employee who committed suicide on September 30th, 2014 and the content displays not only the alienation of depression in modern societies but that of the factory worker producing smartphones in a Chinese factory for Western consumers. Back in the USSR starts off Black History Month by celebrating the life, struggles, and careers of two African-American heroes: Paul Robeson and James Baldwin. Both of these brave men put their immense talents at the service of their people and fought against racism, fought against exploitation, and fought for the solidarity of oppressed peoples around the world. Through music and through writing they touched the lives of millions, and in the face of persecution they never backed down or fell silent. They showed the real power of the human spirit.

Economist Joseph Stiglitz shows that economic inequality in the US is bad, and it is getting worse. The causes are our dysfunctional style of capitalism and a political system that increasingly serves only the economic elite, not "the 99%."
Our economic inequality is bad for democracy, bad for the U.S. economy, even bad for capitalism, Stiglitz argues.
Stiglitz's talk is short on solutions, but it is an excellent, lucid, and very listenable survey of the problems we face--and their causes.

Gerald Horne discusses the Paul Robeson we've been waiting for: the flesh and blood revolutionary, artistic genius, and fearless opponent of capitalism, racism and colonialism. He recovers in meticulous detail one of the 20th century's greatest freedom fighters. Horne also brings Robeson to life for our own times. Gerald Horne returns Paul Robeson to his rightful place in history, squarely at the center of the Black freedom movement and the global struggle for human rights.
