Adamant in their right to open discussion and ideas the WNDC leadership rejected pressure to cancel Blumenthal's talk placing him among the likes of Former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, Robert Kennedy, Rachel Carson, Representative Barbara Jordan and Jimmy Carter who in their time also addressed the group.
