A short excerpt of his speech focusing on Israel and Palestine is followed by an incisive response and analysis by Diana Buttu, a Palestinian Research Fellow at Harvard University, and a former member of the PLO Legal Negotiations Unit. In her response, Buttu lays bare the Presidents tired rhetoric on the 1967 borders, and his failure to address the key issues such as refugees, and the colonial expropriation of land, fueling the Israeli and Palestinian conflict. The program ends with a reading of a recent opinion piece on the enduring legacy of the Nakba by long time Middle East observer and journalist Lamis Andoni, which puts the struggle into its correct context. Although President Obama would have us believe that engaging in no-win negotiations, and deferring key issues is a solution, there will be no peace or justice until Palestinian refugees return to Palestine.
