Michael Parenti is a prolific and award-winning author, widely regarded as one of the nation;s leading lights of progressive political analysis. Over the weekend, Parenti kicked off the new year with a new assessment of the political and economic contradictions of corporate rule by the One Percent, the privatization of public services, and the subversion of popular interests by the corporate-electoral complex. 

Parenti&amp;#039;s speech, titled &amp;quot;Democracy and the Pathology of Wealth,&amp;quot; was delivered to the La Pena Center in Berkley, California (LaPena.org), where he also considered the current repression and future viability of the new Occupy Movement.
