Code-named Operation Pillar of Defense, the Israeli offensive took place almost exactly four years after Operation Cast Lead, Israel's three-week assault on Gaza by Israeli sea, land, and air forces which left over 1,300 Palestinians dead and displaced as many as 90,000 people, causing a major humanitarian crisis.

With Leila Farsakh, Palestinian political economist and Associate Professor of Political Science at University of Massachusetts Boston.
