This week's Global Research News hour features a discussion of the 40 year old coup d'etat in Chile which resulted in the death, torture and imprisonment of tens of thousands of people. Michel Chossudovsky, who was a young visiting Professor of Economics in Chile explains how the coup impacted on the development of global economics and on his own understanding of economics as a weapon.

In the last half hour, Peter Kornbluh, director of the National Security Archive's Chile Documentation Project and author of The Pinochet File: A Declassified Dossier on Atrocity and Accountability breaks down the coup, the role of the US in orchestrating the downfall of President Salvadore Allende, and the prospects for accountability for state criminality following the arrest of Augusto Pinochet in 1998.
