Script/Transcript for program: Pacifica Sprouts: Sustainable Aid for Africans

On this episode of Sprouts, Washington lawyer and philanthropist Dan Wolf, shares his story as founder of Lifeline International, an Africa aid organization he founded with 95 million dollars he won in a lawsuit against Sadam Hussein's Iraqi government after Iraq took Americans hostage during the invasion of Kuwait. Today, Lifeline International aids refugees in Northern Uganda, Darfur, Sudan, the Somali border of Kenya, and Tanzania. Lifeline International focuses on forms of humanitarian aid that help refugees and poverty-stricken people become self- sustaining and introduces sustainable fuel technologies - including the "Bio-Stove" - to help break the cycle of dependency on humanitarian aid and threats to natural resources. Wolf sees Africa's humanitarian problems as also being global problems. He describes current dangers to much of the African continent's diminishing natural resources and claims that if escalating resource problems are not resolved, violence similar to that in Darfur will spread throughout Africa, with cataclysmic results for Africans and the entire world.
