Script/Transcript for program: The Elections and the Unpeoples

On Thursday, Nov. 8, Massachusetts Peace Action and Encuentro Five sponsored an event called The Elections and the Unpeoples. It was a left perspective and analysis of the recent elections with featured speakers Noam Chomsky, Vijay Prashad and Samantha Christiansen. The structure of the program was that each speaker first gave a brief talk about their impression on the election. Then they had a panel discussion amongst themselves about their comments, with questions added from the moderator. Then finally it was opened to questions from the audience. This event took place at the Old South Church in Boston, and was recorded by your radio host, Chuck Rosina for WMBR and Radio4all. Professor Chomsky was the first to speak. Noam piece Vijay Prashad is a well known journalist and author of many books. He is currently writing “The Poorer Nations: A History of the Global South,” which will be published in 2013. He was next to address those assembled at the Old South Church Vijay piece Samantha Christiansen is an Instructor of History at Northeastern University, and long time activist. She took a slightly different take on voting and activism. Samantha piece After their individual presentations, the speakers were asked to elaborate on their comments and what might not have been seriously addressed by the Presidential candidates. Noam Chomsky spoke first. Panel discussion Following the panel discussion, the event was opened to questions from the audience. The panel took 4 questions at a time, then responded to them. In the first round, they were asked about government surveillance, serious activism and communication.
