When GM dropped the mic on Oshawa, saying the big plant would be closed, the real face of capitalist power was on display. The workers, their union, and the community, tens of thousands of people, were put on their mettle. The popular desire that this not happen ran into the rock of remote private power: democracy collides with capital. GM workers did walk out of the plant spontaneously. The old order has to be challenged, as is happening in France and Mexico.
