Matthew Strange discusses a January 2019 meeting of Bristol Labour Party where two members, Pamela Beamish and Esther Giles were excluded from standing as election candidates either for views they expressed on gender reassignment or for criticising the way party members were bullying others over the issue. Labour party member William Quick who was calling for Pam and Esthers banning initially agreed to take part in this discussion but changed his mind shortly before the recording took place.

We fully support the rights of those who have undergone gender reassignment not to face discrimination as transgender people as is their right under the Equality Act (2010). However, women are also a protected group under the Equality Act and we are concerned that groups, including the Labour Party, are unwilling to uphold our right to sex-segregated spaces.
