In this new book, Israeli historian Adam Raz shatters the âconspiracy of silenceâ that surrounds the widespread Jewish looting of Palestinian property that took place in 1948. Drawing from materials he found in more than 30 archives, Raz documents how in the period around the 1948 War, Jewish civilians â who after the war became the founding generation of the state of Israel â pillaged private Palestinian property throughout the land.
Raz also documents how, as the looting took place in full public view, Jewish leaders â including David Ben Gurion â knew what was happening and, even as some expressed disapproval, did nothing to stop it. As Raz observes, having robbed their neighbors, Israeli civilians became âaccomplices to the political situation,â with a âvested interestâ in preventing their former neighbors from ever returning.
Begun in 2004, This Week In Palestine (a weekly 8am feature of Truth and Justice Radio (TJR) is an award-winning 45-minute (or more) segment of news from Palestine and discussion of issues relevant to the Palestinians' struggle for freedom from Israel's brutal military occupation and colonization of their homeland. It speaks from the point of view of Palestinians and those who care about them. TJR has been aired Sundays 6-10am ET on WZBC 90.3FM, Newton, MA, also streamed live and archived for two weeks at wzbc.org; TJR's modest website, truthandjusticeradio.org, has a link to This Week In Palestine's permanent archives back thru 1-6-2008. TJR sometimes airs Palestine coverage IN ADDITION to that provided by This Week In Palestine. We hope you'll write to us at tjradio@fastmail.com if you rebroadcast our work, or have questions or comments.
