A great sigh of relief as, finally, Hassan Yussuf has departed the presidency of the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC). He was put into that position by Jerry Dias of UNIFOR to draw the Canadian labour movement into the orbit of the ruling Liberal Party of Canada, which he very nearly did.
In the place of the outgoing CLC Executive, convention voted three women into office: Bea Bruske, Lily Chang and Siobhan Vipond. Larry Brown of NUPGE stays on as Executive Vice-President.
Phil Taylor interviews Tony Leah, Political Action Chair of UNIFOR Local 222 at General Motors, Oshawa, about the promising resolutions passed at the convention.
These include a trio of resolutions in support of Palestine, which passed easily, but weren't reported in the media, plus a wide range of other resolutions including one, opposed by Yussuf, for the CLC to officially to endorse the NDP.
This is essential listening for Canadian trade unionists.
