Short fictional/satirical "news story" dealing with the potential effects of the Flag Protection Amendment which passed the House on 24 June 1999. If the FPA becomes law, then the authorities MUST enforce it...
Here is my first offering to the Radio Project, for what it's worth. This short satirical "news piece" from "KCFA Radio" (call letters borrowed from the Citizens Flag Alliance, not to be confused with any station that might actually be using those call letters) was originally created as a mock newspaper article detailing what might happen if the Flag Protection Amendment (passed the House of Representatives on June 24, 1999) becomes law. The amendment apparently has a fair chance of passing in the Senate, despite admonitions from such noted voices as Senator John Glenn and the ACLU that such a law would set a dangerous precedent that could lead to further erosion of the right to free expression guaranteed by the First Amendment and upheld by the Supreme Court (Texas v. Johnson, 1989).
This mock "news" story is offered as a satirical "what-if" situation; however, if the FPA does indeed become law, then the authorities will indeed have a legal obligation to enforce that law... as a result, the scenario outlined here may not be as far-fetched as one might initially think.
