Listen to an interview with Marissa Berry-Mendez of Montreal's anti-FTAA coalition on the upcoming mobilizations against the Free Trade Area of the Americas happening in Montreal and throughout the hemisphere.
Produced for the CKUT (90.3FM) community news collective in Montreal by Aaron Lakoff. Contact aaron@resist.ca.
From November 4-5th, 2005, the heads of state of 34 countries in the Americas will meet in Mar del Plata, Argentina, to push the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) forward. One big issue at the helm this year are the bilaterals - otherwise known as the FTAA's babies - which establish free trade agreements on smaller scales.

At the same time, there will be demonstrations in Argentina, Montreal, and throughout the world in opposition to global capitalism and privatization.

Here we speak with Marissa Berry-Mendez of Montreal's Anti-FTAA Coalition. The coalition brings together various anti-capitalist groups in Montreal, and they are organizing a large street carnival in opposition to the FTAA on Friday, November 4th. Marissa reflects on five years of resistance to the FTAA, and various popular movements around the hemisphere.

-->Marissa Berry-Mendez is an organizer with the Anti-FTAA coalition in Montreal and a member of the Komiteal (Latin America committee of the Anti-Capitalist Convergence). She has organized against the FTAA and privatization in many countries, from the streets of Montreal to peasant and indigenous federations of Ecuador.
