Radio interview with Mary Daly, feminist author. Produced by Joy LeClaire with Sindy Sellars for KZYX/Z, Mendocino County Public Broadcast. Philo California. 1 hour
Beyond the Deep End Presents an interview with Mary Daly, elemental, radical feminist philosopher and meta-ethicist, whose books span 5 decades from The Church and the Second Sex in 1968 to Amazon Grace in 2006. She shares her insights about patriarchy, which she points out is only about 5,000 years old - "a mere spurt of sperm", and that it is a global, necrophilic system, which destroys life. She coined the term, biophilic, since there was no term to describe a system that is life-loving at it's core. Never dull, Mary Daly continues to exhort us to rise up and shake off the mind-numbing "foreground" madness that is the dominant culture, and focus our attention on the "background" awareness that can clear our vision for effective action.
As she says: "The victims of TV land and shopping mall hell, as well as meaningless 'education' and jobs, are prime candidates for imprisonment in totalitarian society. This was manifested in early 21st century America by plutocracy/oligarchy/oiligarchy, which I shall simply Name "BUSHDOM/BUSHDUMB."
