May is here and with it the deadliest suicide rates of the year. Could the cause be SAD, Seasonal Affect Disorder that as many as 10 to 12% of the population may suffer from ? In the Northern Hemisphere, deprived of sunlight in the winter they become depressed but don't have the mental energy to act on it until the spring when the days get longer ?
Suicide in Las Vegas . It's not what you think. If it were just addicitve behaviors New Jersey would have the highest suicide rate. Is suicide the act of individuals or more the result of social factors ? One million people committ suicide annually worldwide. Elderly white men have the highest suicide rate and African - American women the lowest rate . Why ? Sadly, Native American teenagers have a dramatic rate of suicide.
Survivors of suicide feel about that death in ways that family members who have lost loved ones to natural causes or disease just don't feel . There is always the burden of guilt that you could have done something.
There's more we don't know than we do know about suicide. We do know we are not serving some members of our community when they need help the most.
