Preview of the podcast of the grand final of the Nimbin World Performance Poetry Cup. Miles Merril performs "The World Cafe"
Performance Poet Miles Merril master of slam, with Hip-hop fan and technophile Donne Restom and World Poetry Cup finalist, give an exclusive interview to community radio 2NimFM. These two dazzling performers (who travelled from Sydney for the event) share their thoughts on the differences between performance and written poetry, the future of poetry, technological change, hip-hop and the Sydney scene. Not to be missed.
The interview is preceded by a 4 minute recording of Miles Merril's live performance in the World Poetry Cup heats, of "The World Cafe" - where a negro, an Australian, and an Aboriginal meet ... sounds like a one of those jokes, or a scene from Crocodile Dundee ... but wait for the punch line ...
Just a small sample of the stupendous, outrageous, irreverent and sublime performances that filled the streets last weekend in Nimbin.
Part 2. Douglas Broad, Bush poet didn't quite make the finals, which gives you some idea of the quality of the performances at the Nimbin World Poetry Cup this year. This is a classic 'bush' poem, based (according to Doug) on a true story; an account of a two-up game that had the audience on the edge of its seat. If you haven't ever experienced a two-up game, this is the next best thing to being there.
