Nanaimo Blues Festival presented the second summer of free outdoor blues concerts in downtown Nanaimo. This is a glimpse of the last day of the series, August 27, 2006, with special emphasis on Ray Visscher.
Ray Visscher was born on August 27th, 1993, three years to the day after the death of Stevie Ray Vaughn, who is one of Ray's first and biggest influences. So on his 13th birthday, on the final day of this year's Nanaimo Blues Festival, Ray was on stage for a couple numbers with Bill Johnson and his band. At the beginning of the series, in early August, Ray joined David Gogo and his band briefly, and in the middle of the month Ray and his newly formed band "Love in Vain" took the stage. This segment features voices of Billie Boy Lucas, one of the visionaries of the Nanaimo Blues Festival Society, Ray Visscher and his mother, Rhonda Visscher, as well as Bill Johnson who is enthusiastically teaching and supporting Ray.
This segment begins with a Living on Purpose ID by Jeff Healey, includes a taste of Bill Johnson's "Work Song" prior to his comments about Ray, and ends with an ear to Ray's guitar licks along with David Gogo.
