On this month's show, we feature interviews with Amita Handa and Biju Mathew:
AMITA HANDA: Amita is the host and producer of Masala Mixx on CKLN Radio in Toronto, as well as the resident DJ at the monthly Bollywood party called "Besharam" which attracts over 700 people. She is also the author of "Of Silk Saris and Mini Skirts: South Asian Women Walk the Tightrope of Culture" which explores cultural conflict among second generation South Asian youth in Toronto. Amita was interviewed by Nisha of the South Asian Community News Collective in Montreal.
BIJU MATHEW: Biju is originally from Hyderabad. Now based in New York City, he has been an active opponent of the Hindu right wing in North America, focussing on organizing against the funding of Hindtuva groups. In the aftermath of the Gujarat genocide of 2002, Biju helped to form the "Campaign to Stop Funding Hate". He was interviewed at length by South Asian Community News Collective member Jaggi; some of the topics addressed in this excerpt include: globalization, migration and the rise of Hindutva amongst the South Asian diaspora; the "white imaginary" of middle class migrants to North America; and current campaigns to fight Hindutva.
