Can we escape the problems of industrial ag? Govt. regs say no.
Tom Allen - producer
As the effects of Industrial Ag come into focus, local food activists look for ways to avoid the problems. Food contamination gives the issues new urgency. Clearly, USDA Organic standards were no help as organic spinch was affected in summer 2006. In a classic Catch-22 Local and slow food actvists and consumers alike find that USDA and FDA regulations alike discourage buying protien outside normal channels. Not only that, but the proposed fixes may be worse than the problem. Will all produce be tracked and irradiated? Will all livestock wear RFID chips. Keep a close eye on the USDA, FDA and farm legislation.
