A court martial in Colorado handed a fifteen month jail sentence to Robin Long on Friday. He also received a dishonourable discharge, and was demoted to a lower rank. Before sentencing, three witnesses spoke on Long's behalf, including Ann Wright. Wright is a former US army colonel and diplomat who resigned from the State Department in opposition to Bush Administration policies just before the 2003 invasion of Iraq. She told CKUT that Long's jail sentence is among the highest given to any Iraq war resister. About thirty have been court martialed after refusing to go to Iraq or Afghanistan. Jail time generally ranges from zero to twelve months. Wright spoke to CKUT from Fort Carson, Colorado.
