Steve Staples of the Rideau Institute says the costs include not only the cost of keeping 2500 soldiers in Kandahar but also the costs of health care for hundreds of wounded soldiers and the economic loss to families and communities for the soldiers who are either killed or disabled. He says that Canadian MPs did not know the true cost of the mission when they voted to extend it.
