FORTY YEARS AGO, ON JUNE 28, 1969, THE NYPD VICE SQUAD RAIDED THE STONEWALL INN IN THE WEST VILLAGE SPARKING DAYS OF VIOLENT CONFRONTATION BETWEEN THE POLICE AND GAY MEN ENRAGED BY YEARS OF REPRESSION.
THE REBELLION, KNOWN AS THE STONEWALL RIOTS, IS CONSIDERED A HISTORIC MOMENT AT THE ORIGIN OF LGBT RIGHTS AND, AROUND THE ANNIVERSARY DATE, GAY PRIDE MARCHES ARE HELD THROUGHOUT THE WORLD.
THIS PAST FRIDAY, TWO HUNDRED LGBT AND ACTIVISTS RESPONDED TO A CALL BY THE “RADICAL HOMOSEXUAL AGENDA” TO PARADE WITHOUT A PERMIT THROUGH THE WEST VILLAGE. WBAI FRED NGUYEN INTERVIEWED SOME OF THE MARCHERS:
