A very special Connecting the notes presentation. When I was younger my aunt gave me a cd of African singer Salif Keita. I loved it. This was my first introduction to world music, and a much welcomed discovery for me at the time. We devoted this show to the music of West Africa, particularly the country of Mali, which gave us Salif Keita, Ali Farka Toure, and many others. During this show we discuss griots, a group of artisans traditionally known as the oral historians for this region. In addition to some great traditional and modern African music, we also interview a woman who lived in this region for over 20 years, and who introduced me to this music!
