Cancer prevention education that is being provided by environmental groups such as the Collaborative on Health and Environment and Cancer Action NY/Cancer Action Network addresses the exposures to pollutant carcinogens that cause a very large proportion of the cancer cases in the US and Canada. This educational effort needs to be vastly expanded if Americans and Canadians are to live the cancer free lives that are possible through avoidance of everyday exposures to chemicals and agents such as ionizing radiation. Government has chosen not to educate on the subject of pollutant carcinogens and exposure avoidance because industry controls government. Government education efforts on a massive scale are needed at this time to overcome the many years of misinformation and lack of any prevention message on pollution that causes cancer. Dr. Clapp believes that the Obama administration will take up this challenge and establish a new paradigm concerning the matter of use of scientific knowledge to prevent disease.
