A COLUMBIAN HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVIST AND FARMER VISITED THE UNIVERSITY OF IDAHO THURSDAY, OCTOBER 22ND TO REVEAL THE REAL IMPACT BEHIND PLAN COLUMBIA, AND OTHER FREE TRADE POLICIES. SPEAKING THROUGH A TRANSLATOR, RAFAEL COICUE (coy-cway) OF THE ASSOCIATION OF INDIGENOUS COUNCILS TOLD A GROUP THAT U.S. TAXPAYER DOLLARS ARE MOSTLY BENEFITING A FEW WEALTHY LANDOWNERS AND MULTINATIONAL CORPORATIONS OPERATING IN COLUMBIA.

COICUE SAID THE UNITED STATES HAS FOR THE MOST PART STOPPED PUSHING REGIONAL FREE TRADE AGREEMENTS, AND IS INSTEAD NEGOTIATING THEM COUNTRY-BY-COUNTRY. HE SAID AMERICANS SHOULD WRITE THEIR MEMBERS OF CONGRESS TO OPPOSE FREE TRADE AGREEMENT PROPOSALS AND STRIVE TO EDUCATE OTHERS ABOUT THE DISPARITY OF WEALTH THAT INDIGENOUS PEOPLE FACE IN THE REGION.
