On Tuesday, August 4, 2009, a panel of three federal judges issued a ruling that ordered the State of California to reduce its prison population by approximately 43,000 inmates over the next two years in order to meet constitutional standards. The ruling came in response to a class-action lawsuit that was filed in 2001 on behalf of California inmates by the Prison Law Office, an inmate advocacy group located in San Francisco. In this interview on the Shedding Light radio show on December 28, 2009, David Lewis, Dorsey Nunn, Tandrea Madison and Henrietta J. Burroughs, talked with radio show host Byrd Hale to discuss why everyone should care about the release of these inmates and the potential impact the new parolees could have on their respective communities. The show participants also discussed what listeners can do to enable ex-prisoners to live productive and law-abiding lives.
