AT THE U.N. GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE CONFERENCE IN DECEMBER THE NATIONS OF THE WORLD FAILED TO ADOPT AN ACCORD THAT WOULD MANDATE CO2 EMISSIONS REDUCTIONS BUT THE DOCUMENT DID RECOGNIZE THE CHALLENGE OF KEEPING GLOBAL WARMING BELOW TWO DEGREES CELCIUS. THE CONFERENCE WAS MARKED BY MASS PUBLIC PROTESTS AND DEMANDS FOR AID AND EVEN REPARATIONS BY MANY NATIONS AFFECTED BY STORMS, DROUGHTS AND RISING SEA LEVELS.
THIS PAST WEEK, CLIMATE JUSTICE ACTIVISTS CONVERGED ON NEW YORK CITY TO PROTEST THE SECOND CARBON TRADING SUMMIT AT THE EMBASSY SUITES IN LOWER MANHATTAN. THE CONVERGENCE BEGAN WITH A PANEL DISCUSSION LAST SUNDAY BETWEEN ACADEMICS AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZERS. WBAI FRED NGUYEN ATTENDED AND HE FILED THIS REPORT:
