Professor Joel Beinin is a Donald J. McLachlan Professor of Middle Eastern History in Stanford University's History Department. His knowledge of Middle Eastern Music is incredible, and he brought some wonderful pieces and fascinating stories. The theme to his show is an introduction to the different instruments that make up the traditional Arabic or Turkish ensemble which is called a Takht or Takhat. His playlist features instrumental music initially and then includes some pieces with vocalists.
