Investing in nuclear power can slow down a large-scale transition to renewable energy. Uranium is an exhaustible resource, not renewable. Capital put into building new nuclear plants is not available for renewables and efficiency. Here in Vermont, the state might have invested significantly more in renewables if major utilities were not locked into long-term contracts for a third of the state’s electricity from the state’s aging nuclear power plant.
Produced by Relocalizing Vermont Productions. Music by Pete Sutherland; voiceover by Jo Chickering.
