In honor of International Women's Day we air an interview with one of the foremost academics in Illinois to address issues facing working women. Dr. Helena Worthen is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Labor Education Program at the University of Illinoisâ School of Labor & Employment Relations. Dr. Worthen puts together workshops and conferences every year focusing on the concerns of women workers, including the annual Regina V. Polk Women's Labor Leadership Conference, which will be held this coming Jun 2 - Jun 5 here in Chicago. Will talk with Dr. Worthen about this conference as well as another conference she has helped organize, the United Association for Labor Education Conference, which will take place March 24 â 27 in San Diego California.
Well also air some reflections on the Obama administrationâs first year in office and the mistakes made by organized labor in not mobilizing to ensure that the administration was pushed in the right direction from one of Chicagoâs most important labor leaders, Tom Balanoff President of SEIU Local 1.
