April 14, 1967 Dr. King delivered a troubled speech, The Other America, which made against the background of urban rebellions, pleas for black power, and the Vietnam War. The speech was masterful, and riveting expounding on the threats of militarism, racism, and economic degradation and wealth disparity – the promise of American and the reality of its duality based on race and class. Dr. Clayborne Carson & Dr. Vincent Harding discuss Dr. King, the context for the Other America then and now.
