This week on Speak up! Speak out! jim talks with Denie Luna, Media Specialist for the 2010 Census to find out the specifics about how the 2010 Census is attempting to reach the undercounted communities, a bit of census history and how one can track the census returns by zip code. jim also talks with Jeanne Youngquist, Skagit County Auditor, and/or Gabrielle Clay, Outreach Coordinator for Elections in the Auditor's office. They give the impact on our electoral system. Will Skagit County get a Spanish ballot as required by law if a language group reaches 5% of the total population? If per the census Washington State is allotted a 10th Congress person, who does the redistricting and how is it done? Also joining Speak up! Speak out! is Karen Parnell, Deputy Director of Skagit Co Community Action Agency to talk more specifically about the local impact of program funds based on the census.
