On todayâs program we hear voices from a memorial vigil held at the Haymarket monument in Downtown Chicago last Saturday to honor the memory of Farzad Kamangar who was executed by the Iranian government on May 9th. Farzad Kamangar was an Iranian Kurd, a teacher, a human rights activist and a member of the Teachers' Union of Kurdistan. He was sentence to death in 2008 for his opposition to the theocratic regime in Iran. The death sentence was carried out on May 9th.
We will also here about wage theft in Chicago and a new study released last month by UICâs Center for Urban Economic Development on the prevalence of wage theft in our great city. You will also hear stories of experiences of wage theft from a 3 Chicago workers who have experienced it first hand.
