National Conversation on Public Health and Chemical Exposures-New York State Cancer Detectives Conversation: a public open forum event for the purpose of developing consensus on the subject of pollutant carcinogen exposure reduction
Consensus Statement
In the United States, the federal and state governments are controlled by corporations to the extent that scientific knowledge will not be used to prevent cancer in a significantly effective way for many years. Small groups of cancer prevention activists have the capacity to move their town and county governments to work as partners in cancer prevention education, thereby accomplishing the goal of using science to prevent cancer.
Making cancer prevention exciting and appealing is key to the success of this educational endeavor. By sharing our experiences as cancer detectives in unique and creative ways we can inspire others to join into our cancer prevention revolution. Making a series of movies: Cancer Detectives in the St. Lawrence River Valley, Cancer Detectives in the Adirondack Mountains, Cancer Detectives in the Ohio River Valley, Cancer Detectives in Detroit, etc. is high on our list of education projects. Conducting open stage events that involve sharing our experiences as cancer detectives in a performance-like manner is proving to be fun and effective.
This event has been reported to the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) and the National Center for Environmental Health (NCEH), which serve as facilitators of the National Conversation on Public Health and Chemical Exposures. The Conversation is a collaborative project focusing on setting an action agenda for accomplishing the vision of chemical use that is safe and healthy for all.
Viva the Revolution!!
