This episode: what are the effects of the CIA's "Cultural Cold War" socially engineering the West while setting up dictatorships in the East for 50 years? Why are women being internationally elevated in social status over men by the same corrupt institutions that usually act like they hate women? Why are men and women doing that keeps them from respecting each other as much as they could? How does "txt msgng" and "chatting" in the "Twitterverse" affect our ability to think about how to be happy?
CKLNs Rude Awakening Morning Show is hosted by Black Krishna (BK) from Monday to Thursday from 6 - 7 am; who also hosts CKLNs Word of Mouth Mondays from 7 - 8 pm, on CKLN Radio, 88.1 FM, Rogers Cable 947 or CKLN.fm online. Manliness

"Confucian" for HenryMakow.com | July 24, 2010

[Left, Michelangelos' "David." A measure of what "Confucian" is saying below: it was difficult to find images of manliness either on Google images or Flickr, almost as if "manliness" is being erased from our consciousness. (Henry Makow did not write this article but endorses it.)]

A central concept in Confucius' Analects is that of the gentleman. For Confucius, a gentleman is someone whose words do not outstrip his deeds. For precisely that reason, this article is written anonymously, to ensure that the author's words do not outstrip his deeds. We may just regard them as thoughts to consider, without any person claiming to possess the quality about to be praised. That must eventually be determined in the battlefield of life by the assessment of fair observers.

The quality is Manliness.

The Cultural Cold War: The CIA and the World of Arts and Letters: Intelligence in Recent Public Literature

By Frances Stonor Saunders. New York: The New Press, 2000. 509 pages.

Reviewed by Thomas M. Troy, Jr. | Central Intelligence Agency

... The centerpiece of the CIA's propaganda campaign—and the focus of Saunders's book—was the Congress for Cultural Freedom and its principal publication, the journal Encounter . Saunders's diligence and hard work shows as she describes the creation, activities, and downfalls of the Congress and the journal. She read the Church Report, performed research in various archives, and conducted many interviews, including some with retired CIA officers.5 Her fine writing style and occasionally even gossipy method of presenting the material makes what could have been a dry-as-dust account of institutions read easily. She also has some fascinating characters, for the people discussed in The Cultural Cold War are among the leading intellectual figures of post-World War II Europe and America. She presents these people with wit and occasionally a pen dripping with acid.

The Pentagon Goes Hollywood

Operation Hollywood

How the Pentagon bullies movie producers into showing the U.S. military in the best possible light.

Jeff Fleischer | Mother Jones | September 20, 2004

To keep the Pentagon happy, some Hollywood producers have been known to turn villains into heroes, remove central characters, change politically sensitive settings, or add military rescues to movies that require none. There are no bad guys in the military. No fraternization between officers and enlisted troops. No drinking or drugs. No struggles against bigotry. The military and the president can’t look bad (though the State Department and Canada can).

Pentagon and CIA enlist video games | Simulations developed for training and recruitment

Matt Slagle | MSNBC News | October 3, 2003

Oct. 3 — Hunched with his troops in a dusty, windswept courtyard, the squad leader signals the soldiers to line up against a wall. Clasping automatic weapons, they inch single-file toward a sandy road lined with swaying palm trees. The squad leader orders a point man to peer around the corner, his quick glance revealing several foes lying in wait behind a smoldering car. A few hand signals, a quick flash of gunfire, and it’s over. The enemy is defeated, but no blood is spilled, no bullet casings spent: All the action is in an upcoming Xbox-based training simulator for the military called “Full Spectrum Warrior.”

New Pentagon Sim Teaches Troops to Play Nice

Katie Drummond | Wired Magazine | February 26, 2010

The Pentagon’s added yet another video game to their growing collection. This time, they’re investing in a “First Person Cultural Trainer” designed to teach one-on-one cultural sensitivity to American troops. The Army’s Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) is backing University of Texas at Dallas researchers to create the game, which is a 3D sim with scenarios in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Troops play themselves, and interact with Iraqi and Afghan civilians in replications of local villages. It’s a project that’s been in the works for three years, and uses cultural data provided by the military. The goal of the game is to enter a village, learn about the social structures and relevant issues, and then “work with the community” to successfully finish assigned missions.

Toronto G20 Police State Terror Drill Caught On Tape

Military Helicopters Over Toronto - June 25, 2010

Throughout this week in the build-up to the G20, military helicopters from Canada and the United States have been flying through the city. Through the window he sits beside on the thirtieth floor of the new Telus tower, David G. Tran—a product manager in Telus' marketing department—has had one of the best views of them. On June 22 and 23, he explains, he brought his telephoto lens to work and took the photos above, of "Canadian Air Force and United Marine Corps helicopters flying at low altitudes and close proximity through Toronto's Financial District and landing next to the CN Tower on a makeshift helicopter landing pad."

Divide and rule (or Divide and conquor)

In politics and sociology, divide and rule (derived from Latin divide et impera) (also known as divide and conquer) is a combination of political, military and economic strategy of gaining and maintaining power by breaking up larger concentrations of power into chunks that individually have less power than the one implementing the strategy. In reality, it often refers to a strategy where small power groups are prevented from linking up and becoming more powerful, since it is difficult to break up existing power structures.

Black matriarchy

Black matriarchy was a popular stereotype in the 1950s and 1960s that exemplified black American family structure. This ideology depicted traditional black American households as being dominated and controlled by outspoken and emasculating women. The role of motherhood that black women of this time period were expected to fulfill created a paradox known as the “superwoman.” This image of the superwoman depicted the black mother as someone who had to be a traditional good mother: nurturing and caring towards her children, but at the same time she was considered unfeminine, strong willed and too domineering. The economic inequality that many black families faced during the time of the Civil Rights Movement created a situation of devastating poverty. Many black men could not support their families due to the economic injustices that they faced. Their inability to provide forced many black women to join the labor force in order to prevent their families from starving and many women become the head family provider. Many scholars argue that the myth of black matriarchy worked to generate a false sense of authority that was attributed to black women due to their participation in the labor force and their contributions in the household. Some argue that the “authority” of the matriarchal figure as a family provider was an application of personal power instead of a means for survival.
