Journalist Shannon Young is a headlines producer at FSRN, and reports for PRI, Public Radio Internationalâs, The World. She provides breaking news from Oaxaca Mexico, and joins us to talk about her breaking news stories in context.
Shannon expands on her reports about a paramilitary siege endangering civilians in San Juan Copala. Peace convoys have been violently attacked while en route there and rights workers died. The organizers of a convoy that was being organized to help women and children leave San Juan Copala for their safety were killed a day before the convoy was supposed to leave. Meanwhile, there are the land slides, the political corruption that undermines the foundation and a long standing climate of impunity even for the crime of murder.
