Why cold winters after the hottest year? And those Australian super-floods? Interview with Meterologist Jeff Masters, from The Weather Underground (#56 most popular site on the Net). Then Oxford Historian of modern China Karl Gerth on the big question: Why did China turn to consumerism, coal and oil? Why not leap forward into clean energy? Can we survive it?
Interviews by Alex Smith of Radio Ecoshock
While most mainstream TV weather reporters dodge climate change, millions of people bail out to get the straight news from Jeff Masters and his co-conspirators at the Weather Underground. Wunderground.com is always in the top 100 most visited sites on the whole Net.

Jeff explains blizzards in the Northern Hemisphere are partly due to massive Summer Arctic Ice melt, & extra heat near the Pole. The expected extreme precipitation events, as predicted by climate science. Like the giant floods in Queensland, Australia. A warmer atmosphere picks up more water.

Jeff and I talk about our uncertain climate future, as world oil consumption continues to climb.

The Australian floods temporarily cut off one quarter of Australia's coal exports. Most of that is burned in China.

"As China Goes, So Goes the World. How Chinese Consumers Are Transforming Everything." That's the title from a new book by Karl Gerth. He's a fellow at Merton College, teaching modern Chinese history at Oxford University, in Britain.

American-style consumerism is sweeping China, with devastating pollution not just in China, but resource extraction and species extinction across the world.

Why did China repeat our mistakes in a fossil-fuel economy? And when will the whole consumer growth Ponzi scheme crash?
