Today's show features a conversation with longtime peace activist Kathy Kelly of Voices for Creative Non-Violence on her participation in the recent Gaza Flotilla, and the Welcome to Palestine Campaign. VCNV seeks to end U.S. military and economic warfare. She and her companions at the Voices home office in Chicago believe that non-violence necessarily involves simplicity, service, sharing of resources and non-violent direct action in resistance to war and oppression. Kathy has brought this important message to war torn areas such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Palestine. For example, in 2003 Kathy and her companions lived in Baghdad throughout the "Shock and Awe" bombing. In 2009, she was part of a small delegation that reported from Gaza during Israel's brutal "Operation Cast Lead". In 2010, she made three trips to Afghanistan, helping to connect U.S. peace activists with Afghan Youth Peace Volunteers and other representatives of civil society, and more recently in the spring of 2011, she joined these same volunteers in their campaign "Live Without Wars"
