LAST MAY, AFTER YEARS OF PROTESTS AGAINST BRUTAL AND DISCRIMINATORY PRACTICES AND FOLLOWING A COMPLAINT BY THE AMERICAN CIVIL LIBERTIES UNION, THE U.S. ATTORNEY FOR NEW JERSEY ANNOUNCED AN INVESTIGATION OF THE NEWARK POLICE DEPARTMENT TO REVIEW THE CONSTITUTIONALITY OF ITS POLICIES.
THIS PAST THURSDAY, AT THE ABYSSINIAN BAPTIST CHURCH IN NEWARK, THE PEOPLES ORGANIZATION FOR PROGRESS HOSTED FIVE MEMBERS OF THE U.S. JUSTICE DEPARTMENT, WHO CAME TO RECORD IN-PERSON TESTIMONIES OF POLICE MISCONDUCT. BECAUSE THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT HAD REQUESTED THAT THE MEDIA NOT BE PRESENT, WBAI FRED NGUYEN COULD NOT WITNESS THE PROCEEDINGS WITH THE OTHER THREE HUNDRED MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC BUT HE WAS ABLE TO INTERVIEW SOME OF THE VICTIMS OUTSIDE THE DOOR AND HE FILED THIS REPORT:
