Today on Sea Change Radio, host Alex Wise speaks with Thaddeus Barsotti, a second generation organic farmer who grows and distributes fresh fruits and vegetables in Northern California through his family’s companies, Capay Organic and Farm Fresh To You. Barsotti talks about the challenges that small farmers face including a distribution system for produce that’s heavily oriented toward large producers and markets. So what’s a little farming operation to do? One solution is the CSA – Community Supported Agriculture – where farmers cut out the “middle man” and distribute directly to the consumer, literally to your door. Barsotti talks about the role that the internet has played in promoting local small farmers and what we can do as consumers to make sure we’re eating local produce and supporting smaller farmers.
