In the late 1990s, the quiet little revolution of a local Nebraska pastor rocked the United Methodist Church. The denomination tried him twice for performing same-gender commitment ceremonies, and ultimately withdrew his ordination credentials in 1999. But that's not the part of his story the Reverend Jimmy Creech focuses on - not in print in his recently-published memoir, "Adam's Gift" - and not from the pulpit of Metropolitan Community Church-Los Angeles, where he distinguished God from a sex-negative mainstream church hierarchy.
