Last week, more than half of the province's 70 courtrooms had no duty counsel, the lawyers who usually represent people for first-time appearances. The Trial Lawyers' Association took the job action to draw attention to round after round of cuts to the legal aid system. Rishi Gill is a Vancouver criminal defence lawyer.
