Michael Parenti spoke on January 6, 2012, at the La Peña Cultural Center in Berkeley, CA. He is one of the nationâs leading progressive political analysts. Raised in a working class district of New York City, Parenti went on to earn a Ph.D. in political science from Yale. He lost his chance at an academic career when he was beaten and arrested during one of the many rallies against the war on Vietnam that he attended. Parenti is the author of over 20 books, among them: Democracy For the Few, History as Mystery, and, most recently, The Face of Imperialism.
