On the 29th of February, Occupy DC activists blockaded the DC headquarters of Monsanto. Monsanto is a member of ALEC, the notorious right-wing outfit that helps corporations like Monsanto write their own regulatory and other legislation. In the case of Monsanto, that means legislation to allow the sale of their genetically-engineered Frankenfood. It also means trade treaties and legislation favorable to lawsuits against farmers over their dispicable practice of patenting seeds.

After stopping at ALEC's headquarter, Occupy DC arrived at Monsanto's I street headquarters just before 8 AM, rolling in with carts carrying boards to block the doors.

The police tried but failed keep Occupy from deploying boards blocking the doors. At one door, two whole lines of beautifully painted boards were in place blocking the doors by 8 AM

(clip)

After police managed to push away the boards, a second layer of blockades remained in place-arm locked protesters again blocking the doors. One of the 4 sets of doors was soon cleared of blockaders, only to leave a chain lock on the doors themeslves.

The blockade lasted over an hour and a half, it wasn't until 9:30 AM that Monsanto was able to open their doors for business. Twelve people were arrested, ten at the blockades but two more for trying to take a survey of cops about police brutality. Man, that is UGLY!

(clip)

One cop, Officer Freeman, Badge #18, was pushing women around all day, far more than men. I guess that gives new meaning to "copping a feel!" Copping a feel of not, those cops wern't able to keep Occupy DC from shutting down Monsanto for over an hour on the national "shut down the corporations day!"
